Cattle restraint chute (squeeze chute) is a fundamental piece of equipment in veterinary medicine and ranch management. Its primary function is to safely and effectively restrict the movement of cattle, facilitating procedures such as medical examinations, treatments, artificial insemination, and hoof trimming. Based on different usage scenarios and functional requirements, restraint chutes can be classified into various types.
Core Components and Functions:
Head Restraint (Head Gate/Neck Yoke): This is the most basic function. By restricting the animal's neck, it prevents the cow from lowering its head or tossing it in a way that could injure personnel, while also providing convenient access for head examinations and procedures.
Body and Abdominal Restraint: Some chutes are equipped with side squeeze panels or belly straps that secure the cow's body from both sides or underneath. This prevents the animal from swaying side to side or lying down, thereby enhancing operational stability.
Limb Restraint: For hoof trimming or leg surgeries, the cow's hooves must be secured using ropes, straps, buckles, or specialized restraining devices. Some high-end chutes even feature anti-kick mechanisms to protect operators from injury.
